Saffron farming ‘not a get-rich-quick scheme’

Saffron production could potentially offer the South African agriculture sector an exciting and profitable new option, but should not be seen by potential growers as a get-rich-quick scheme.
This was according to Bennie Engelbrecht, director and owner of Saffricon (South African Saffron).
In an, Engelbrecht said that although saffron was the most expensive spice in the world and ideally suited to be produced in South Africa’s climatic conditions, prospective producers would be well advised to start small and allow their businesses to develop gradually.
