TIP OF THE FORTNIGHT

See when Num, Caps and Scroll Lock are on

In response to William Lyons’ query in Problems Solved in Issue 590, page 68 (‘Can I disable Num Lock?’), I wouldn’t recommend removing key tops to disable certain toggle keys. If the toggle key starts in the wrong state, it might be tricky to flip it back.

I had this kind of difficulty knowing the state of Num Lock, Caps Lock and Scroll Lock on my laptop. My solution was a small program called Keyboard LEDs (https://keyboard-leds.com). It either shows you permanently whether these Lock keys are activated, or can show you when they are on but remain hidden when they are off.
