A popular parenting book declares in its title that Einstein Never Used Flash Cards. It provocatively sums up the book’s ethos – let children learn by playing, rather than forcing them to memorise facts. The premise is that Albert Einstein wouldn’t have grown into the 20th century’s greatest genius had his parents made him repeat times tables and the alphabet over his morning porridge.
