For years, Microsoft Money (pictured right) was the world’s best personal finance software. It had an attractive interface, was easy to use, and had loads of features. First released in 1991, it steadily gained in popularity as its tools and abilities were enhanced, right through to the release of Money Plus in 2007.
However, in spring 2010 Microsoft released Money Plus Sunset Deluxe which, while it maintained many of the core features, dropped some of the most attractive elements, including automatic statement downloads and online bill payments. Support was also limited to ‘online self-help’, rather than being actively supported and developed by Microsoft itself.
That decision frustrated millions of users, who couldn’t understand why Microsoft would abandon such a popular program.
