Should you stop using WhatsApp?

If you’ve got a smartphone, there’s a good chance you’ve got WhatsApp (www.whatsapp.com) installed on it. Unlike standard texts (SMS), which are sent using your mobile network, WhatsApp messages are sent via the internet and are completely free.

What’s more, WhatsApp messages are delivered faster, you can see when people have read them, and you can include audio, photos and video clips. WhatsApp also lets you make voice and video calls – again for free. On the face of it, it seems the perfect way to keep in touch during lockdown and in normal times.

However, WhatsApp’s reputation took a big hit last month, after the company sent a message to all users explaining that its privacy policy was changing. It indicated WhatsApp would soon start
