TIP OF THE FORTNIGHT

Install Windows 10 on an old Sony Vaio laptop

I have a Sony Vaio 17in i5 laptop (8GB RAM and a 500GB SSD, pictured) that refused to upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10 due to driver and hardware problems. I had just reinstalled Windows 10 on an old Dell OptiPlex PC that I’d bought refurbished from Amazon at a bargain price. I had fitted an SSD to clone the original hard drive that was running Windows 10.

I then had the idea to make a further clone of the drive (also on an SSD) and installed it into my Sony Vaio laptop. I had nothing to lose, after all.

The laptop booted up instantly in Windows 10, running the 2020), which identified a few drivers that were promptly installed.
