Microsoft Surface Go 2

PRICE Core m3, £516 (£619 inc VAT) from microsoft.com/store

The Microsoft Surface Go 2 represents all the best and worst things about 2-in-1 laptops. It’s tiny, lightweight and spans the laptop and tablet genres with effortless ease. You can use it to watch Netflix in bed in the morning before attaching the keyboard and slinging it in your bag to do some work on the move – and it’s so compact and light you’ll barely notice its presence.

Yet, it’s a compromise device. It isn’t as powerful as laptops at the same price, nor as cheap as an equally powerful tablet. And, despite the fact that its main appeal is a split tablet/laptop personality, Microsoft still insists on selling the keyboard separately. That immediately adds at least £100 to the price.
