The Surface Laptop Go is, probably, the cutest laptop in the world. Imagine a netbook of ten years ago in terms of footprint, but slimmed down, slathered in metal and gifted with one of the nicest screens you’ll find in a laptop under a grand. It’s a thing of beauty.

Unlike most netbooks, this Surface also feels incredibly sturdy. That’s despite the bottom of the Laptop Go being finished in polycarbonate resin rather than metal, which makes it cheaper than it feels: there’s still a robustness here. This extends to the wristrest, with none of the creak and bend you often find in less expensive laptops. Microsoft goes to even greater efforts with the screen, with an aluminium alloy lid.
