Tribute to two tiny souls

On the 28th floor of a Tokyo apartment building, in a small room lined with shelves of colourful onesies and nappies, Amanda McConchie starts to cry.

This is the nursery the 32-year-old Kiwi and her husband Andrew planned to fill with babies. Two stillbirths later, the room has become a shrine to the children – son Henry and daughter Rose – they’ve lost.

“They say lightning doesn’t strike twice, but it has for us,” says Amanda. “We did everything right for these babies we so desperately wanted, but we still lost them. It’s the most heartbreaking thing, but I want to speak out about it because so many people don’t. Other women should know they’re not alone.”
