Resting heart rate tends to decrease the fitter you are because your heart becomes bigger and pumps more blood with each beat. But it’s important to understand that resting heart rate is relative. That is, someone with a resting heart rate of 60bpm could be fitter than someone measuring 40bpm. In other words, it’s not an absolute measure of fitness.
