Maggie Marilyn is a globally recognised fashion brand worn by the likes of Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, and Michelle Obama. Yet the Kiwi designer behind the label, Maggie Hewitt, is about to pull it from stores around the world.

Maggie has made a name for herself with her sustainable brand, but the trouble these days is she’s not a fan of either fashion or sustainability – or at least what they’ve come to mean.

“Sustainability’s just such an umbrella term I hate,” she declares. “Especially in this industry, it’s become a word that’s used for greenwashing.” Greenwashing being companies doing the bare minimum to claim the sustainability title just to stay on trend.
