Leanne Cole’s art photos of central Melbourne took a prophetic turn in early 2020 when the Victorian government imposed its first COVID-19 lockdown. For deeply personal reasons, she had been using long exposures, filters and digital manipulation to create cityscapes entirely devoid of people. Suddenly such scenes were there in reality, all day, everywhere. If only she’d been able to leave the house to shoot them.
