GIVE YOUR CAR A NEW LEASE ON LIFE

IT TOOK ME a long time to decide on the car I wanted to buy. Finances dictated that I shop in the second-hand market, and after in-depth research, visiting several dealers and contacting many sellers, I settled on a five-yearold turbodiesel Nissan X-Trail.

The thing about a five-year old car is, there’s inevitably going to be some wear and tear, both inside and out. Buying used will always require a degree of compromise. Throw into the equation that we live near the ocean, with onshore summer winds that whip up saltladen air that delivers a corrosive layer that loves to stick to cars, and rust becomes a serious concern. My older vehicle – a beloved 16-year-old bakkie – lives snugly in our single garage, as he’s more prone to rusting, so the newer X-Trail parks outdoors.
