Agent provocateur

This unassuming ‘Yorkshire lad’ – to use his words, not mine – is perhaps not the face (or voice) you expect to be behind the work shown here. Sexy, provocative, and perhaps even crossing the line into inappropriate, his images are designed to make you react – whether positively or negatively. As far as he’s concerned, so long as it makes you feel something, the job is done.

Born, raised and still-living in the town of Hornsea on the east coast, Gavin had a fairly typical route into photography, with some diversions. Going straight into the building industry out of school, he joined the local camera club before deciding to go to college to learn how to colour print. For somebody so into their black & white work, this is perhaps a surprising fact, but it’s less of a shock to find out he didn’t like it – in fact, he says it ‘totally crucified his enthusiasm’, leading him to abandon the three-year course just six months
