The term ‘shop truck’ is something many of you will be familiar with. It harks back to the time long before utes became the most popular vehicles in New Zealand, and when they typically only had one bench seat and a load on the back that would make even the toughest ute of today break a sweat. Care for its paint and panel work always paid second fiddle to its need to pull its weight for the team, and the slap and tickle it was given on a Friday arvo with a bucket and some sketchy rag by the work experience kid was about as far from car care as you could get.
This is why these trucks are often a little worn around the edges, the paint’s never perfect, the interior always has some sort of sauce-related stain, and the trays are scratched and dented.
