GOING A LITTLE DEEPER

We all love summer — hot days at the beach, holidays over the Christmas period, and time to just kick back and relax. Getting the classic car out to drive that has been worked on or rebuilt over the winter is usually high on the priority list as well, with a large number of cool events to attend. Covid may have played havoc over 2020, but with the new year comes new hope for things to remain ‘normal’ — or at least as normal as possible. With the Christmas madness out of the way and people getting back into work, a new kind of madness takes over the North Canterbury town Rangiora every January that is the mainstay of the events calendar down in these parts.

Muscle Car Madness (MCM) celebrated its 31st anniversary this year with hot weather, hot cars, and huge crowds. Gates opened at 6pm Wednesday evening to allow campers in to set up. Around 1500 people took the opportunity to experience the event from a different perspective. Attendees are always well supported and the event is talked about weeks after the last caravan has left. Thursday is usually quiet, and it was no different this year. Some trade stalls get set up, more campers arrive, and it’s a great time to catch up with mates.
