ONE MORE SHOT ON THE ROLL
Here’s a test for you: see if you know what I’m talking about if I say, “You used to be able to find out how many shots you had left on your roll by looking at a little display at the top right corner.” Are you looking blank, wondering what the hell I’m going on about? Yes? Then you’re lucky! You’re a young person! Nodding your head knowingly? Oh … sorry … you know what that means then, don’t you? That means you’re an old bastard like me.
So, for you lucky ones, once upon a time — at least 20 years ago, before anyone had heard of the term ‘digital’ — you’d load a roll of film into your 35mm camera, and keep an eye on the little display up on the top right corner of the body of the camera as the roll wound around, shot by shot, to see how many photos you had left.
