‘I WEAR MY HEART on my sleeve’
It’s 15 years since Saira Khan battled it out in The Apprentice boardroom, becoming Lord Alan Sugar’s runner-up during the 2005 series. But in spite of her feisty image, Saira confesses that it’s only since turning 50 last year she feels truly confident in herself.
Saira, who regularly posts pictures of herself on social media in underwear as an inspiration to other women to be positive about their bodies, is the daughter of Pakistani immigrant parents, and describes her British upbringing as ‘living through two different lives’. Her father died when she was 28 and her mother, she says, struggles to understand Saira’s reasons for showing off her body.
Married to Steven Hyde, with two children, Zacariah, 12, and Amara, nine, she, says she’ll never stop feeling passionate about empowering women. ‘If you look at the way society treats strong women, we’ve still got a long way to go,’ she says.
