Visit with a glass master

from our Rhode Island project house, a remarkable tradition unfolds each spring: Glassblower Eben Horton turns out orbs for the Glass Float Project, a scavenger-hunt-type event on Block Island that he launched in 2012. “I like to make the floats in the spring, when the weather’s cooler and it’s more comfortable to blow glass in the studio,” went by for a visit, and host Kevin O’Connor got a hands-on demonstration; then, with our Narragansett homeowners, he hid some floats in random spots on Block Island. This summer, the public gets to enjoy the thrill of the hunt until all 550 are found.
