Woman of action

Roseanne Liang made a name for herself as a creator of cross-cultural comedy. There was her charming romantic comedy My Wedding and Other Secrets, which sprang from her earlier autobiographical documentary, Banana in a Nutshell. And there was the web series Flat 3, which became the TV show Friday Night Bites.

But Liang (pictured) has long had other ambitions beyond bringing the Chinese-New Zealand experience into the comedy mainstream.

She is now a certified woman of action. She’s directed Shadow in the Cloud, a bizarro tale of what happens when Chloe Grace Moretz’s tough-nut officer joins a USAAF B-17 Flying Fortress flight from Auckland to Samoa at the height of World War II.

It’s part war movie, part horror film,
