‘I WEIGHED MORE THAN 200KG… now I run marathons!’
Anna Kambranis was out of breath walking up the stairs when she arrived for her first gym session.
She was in denial about her ballooning weight, and her friends had bought her 12 personal training sessions to kickstart a healthy lifestyle.
“I didn’t want to go,” Anna, 48, tells Woman’s Day. “I gave the sessions a try because my friends were so concerned about me.”
When the gym instructor asked her to step on the scales, she was devastated. “When I saw I weighed 206kg, I freaked out,” she says. “I didn’t know it had gotten that bad.”
It was the shock she needed. She went home and got rid of all the sugary snacks, chips, and cola she’d been snacking on, swapping them for brown rice, tuna and healthy salads. She quit alcohol and started going to the gym regularly, and with the help of her trainer Kyle, took up weights, boxing and running.
As the weight came off, Anna’s confidence soared. “I never used to do anything active – the couch was my best friend,” she recalls.
“I started to feel like a new person. [Personal trainer] Kyle keeps me accountable, he gave me my healthy life back and I owe him so much,” she says.
Two years on, Anna, who lives in Melbourne, has lost 138kg and has completed her first half marathon.
