KIWI CONNECTION
Sadly, my glacier flight got cancelled due to low cloud, but the gap in my itinerary allowed for a visit to Franz Josef’s West Coast Wildlife Centre, where a VIP backstage pass got me up close and personal with a fluffy four-day-old kiwi called Bobby. In the hatchery, staff can tell you all about New Zealand’s rarest kiwi species, the local rowi, before introducing you to the resident tuatara.
