He may have been a sprinter, but this documentary treatment of Oscar Pistorius, inspirational para-athlete and convicted murderer, is more of an endurance event. An ESPNBBC production, The Life and Trials of Oscar Pistorius takes four episodes – the first 92 minutes long, the remaining three all an hour-plus – to examine his sporting career and the killing of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp.

Judging by the first episode, it will require a special interest in Pistorius and the Steenkamp case to get through all of it. The series begins on the night of Steenkamp’s murder in early 2013 before going back over the Pistorius story, painting a picture of a driven but difficult
