When plans to buy a Victorian terraced house in their preferred town of St Albans yielded no results, Sarah and Adam Capes relaxed their criteria and expanded their search. “We were living in West Hampstead and wanted to stay on that side of London, with good access out to Adam’s family in Yorkshire,” explains Sarah. “We knew St Albans and liked it, but every house we were interested in went to blind bids — we lost out on three different houses.”
