Unrealistic MOTY

I’ve been reading AMCN for a very long time. I’ve sold bikes as a salesman a long time ago. I’ve owned a lot of bikes over the last 50-odd years and am now bike-less. A back compression fracture and knee replacement have caused that, but at 76, I still live in hope of riding again.

But looking at your candidates for Motorcycle of the Year (AMCN Vol 70 No 12), I think you’ve lost the plot. The total price for all the bikes, less the Ducati Superleggera, is $276,148. That’s an average price of $25,104. If we include the Ducati, the total price of all the bikes is $426,148 and at an average of $38,740.

Ignored in your selection, possibly your criteria is at fault here, are bikes that most buyers can afford. I know there is an aspirational side to motorcycle enthusiasm that means we’re always interested in bigger, faster, better and that has always been there.
