ST. MAURICE FIRE COLLECTION
A few hundred kilometres from the Marcanet collection over in the Deux-Sèvres department, which we showed you a few years ago in this magazine, lies a slightly smaller collection; it is very well presented, accessible and representative of the vintage local French fire brigade machines. It can be found in a small hamlet called Pignoux, on the route D 948 just north of the village of St. Maurice-des-Lions and a few kilometres south of the main town of Confolens, in the Charente department of central south-west France; temptingly, the collection can be seen easily from the main road. A large hangar, acquired from the commune of St. Brice-sur-Vienne, was organised to house the collection on the premises of one of the group’s main members, Jean-Paul Pezeaud.
