Q: I am at the limits of my ability and tools with this problem.
I have a 1968 Dodge Coronet 500 convertible with a 318 and automatic transmission. The powertrain is original, untouched internally, and has less than 60,000 miles on it.
About five years ago, I added an Edelbrock Air Gap manifold, Pertronix distributor and coil, and dual exhausts to the engine.
Lately it has been running rough, so I pulled it in for a tune-up. Before changing anything, I put my timing light on it for a baseline reference. It flashed erratically and the timing mark jumped around.
At first, I blamed a jumped/stretched timing chain. Then I moved the timing light to all the other leads, and all but the number six cylinder fired smoothly — it was erratic also.
I continued with the tune-up, including plugs, wires, cap, and rotor. The old plugs were in good shape, with no fouling from oil or gas. Inside the cap
