When somebody commits a horrendous crime, there’s often outrage, horror and calls for the perpetrator to pay dearly. We rely on the criminal justice system to punish the guilty and keep us safe. But what happens when that system fails? When innocent people end up in a jail cell – and worse, the real killer is still on the streets?
Thankfully, miscarriages of justice are rare, but there are some who’ve paid a high price for mistakes made in the court room, either with their liberty or their life.
