Beware the thunder gods in Greece

It was late evening in mid September 2020 when we arrived at Dream Yacht Charter’s base at the Gouvia Marina in Corfu and stepped aboard our home for the next two weeks – a 38ft Dufour sloop.

The previous six months had been a real roller-coaster ride for my wife, Ann, and me and for our two friends Barbara and Mike who were joining us. A previous charter out of Greece had to be cancelled due to COVID-19 travel restrictions, and for the following months this replacement charter to Corfu had been teetering between off and on due to the changing travel restrictions. Then two weeks before we left for Corfu both Ann and I had to undergo urgent medical treatment, and the night before we were all due to fly, Barbara emailed to say they had a burning smell in their home and obviously had a serious electrical problem!
