From where you’d rather be
NORMANVILLE , SOUTH AUSTRALIA
Julia Ritorto – one half of Acler’s design duo – makes the pilgrimage to Normanville, on South Australia’s Fleurieu Peninsula, every summer with her partner and family.
WHAT MAKES IT SPECIAL: It’s where we’ve watched our children grow up and do the things we used to do as kids: play in the street, make friends with the neighbours, race down to the beach. The easy comings and goings that seem less available in city life now.
FAVOURITE MEMORY: Camping on the beach at Cape Jervis the night before New Year’s Eve in 2015. Making s’mores in the bonfire, dancing like children, and drinking enough wine to completely ruin our plans for the next day.
LOCAL SECRET: Ingalalla Falls in the Second Valley Forest Reserve is great for a short hike, with picnic spots along the way and, of course, a stunning waterfall.
PEOPLE WATCHING: The beach is the best place, but if you’d like a drink in hand, you can head up to the Normanville Kiosk and Cafe or the Surf Lifesaving Club.
LUNCH/DINNER: Leonards Mill. It’s completely paddock-to-plate and only uses local Fleurieu Peninsula produce – you can taste it in every bite!
