A PLAN FOR THE ARCHIVES OF THE KOREAN MUSEUM OF URBANISM AND ARCHITECTURE
Archives of the Korean Museum of Urbanism and Architecture
If an artefact is referred to as a finished product imbued with the artistic value by its creator, then data is a series of furrows produced and edited by a purposeful creator, and records are informational or emblematic of the constituting facts of the artefacts and/or the data.
An archive is a series of acts on ‘organising’ and ‘managing’ materials so as to preserve the permanence of their value, selecting and evaluating every item in terms of their historical and cultural significance, and placing them within secure venues that can accommodate such preservation demands. The records in archives are usually stored in chronological or causal order, offering a contextual foundation from which individuals, communities, and nations are interpreted as objectively, allowing interactions when connecting artefacts with wider data sets. The goal of the Korean Museum of Urbanism and Architecture (KMUA) is to communicate with the general public through exhibitions and archival collections on the city and its architecture, and to develop a sense of identity for Korean cities and architecture.
