HOME-GROWN flavour you never forget

I’m hooked on growing tomatoes and judging by their popularity among gardeners generally I’m guessing so are many of you. Apart from the magical flavour growing this lovely crop gives you, there is also such variety in terms of colour, shape and form. How many other veg garden favourites can be grown in anything from a hanging basket, patio container, raised bed or greenhouse? They are so accommodating that even people without a garden can give them a go and so easy that everyone is assured of a decent harvest.

WHAT TO CHOOSE

The current favourites are the cherry toms and delicious new varieties are being produced all the time. Regular readers will have seen our trials on varieties like ‘Honeycomb F1’, ‘Riesling F1’, ‘Shimmer F1’ and of course the ever popular ‘Sungold F1’ and ‘Gardener’s Delight’. But if you prefer something altogether bigger, beefsteaks such as ‘Marmande’, ‘Super Mama F1’ and ‘Cherokee Purple’, or standard types such as ‘Alicante’, ‘Mountain Magic F1’ or ‘Shirley’ might be for you.
