Why are journeys better by motorbike?’ I was asking myself questions as I rode north to the Kielder forest via the Yorkshire Dales. This happens when riding alone, and even more so when on a single-cylinder bike. There’s none of the positioning for the perfect corner or performing an immaculate overtake. It’s more a case of keeping the gas on and maintaining a constant chugging pace. As there’s no quick decision making to do, the mind starts to wander.
