SHIPS AND SHIPPING ON THE FIRTH OF FORTH

The Firth of Forth is the estuary of several Scottish rivers, including the River Forth. It meets the North Sea on Scotland’s east coast, with Fife to the north and Lothian to the south. The estuary’s major ports are Leith, Rosyth and Grangemouth which, together with various other harbours, attract a range of shipping to the area, from small general cargo coasters to 300,000dwt tankers, as well as cruise ships, container ships, offshore vessels and warships.

Of the major ports, Leith is probably the most significant, being the largest enclosed deepwater port
