ANGLIA 105E
Back in the 1960s, the Anglia was your archetypal boy-racer car. With plenty of them about, and with an engine partly-designed with race track success in mind, those in the know spurned the ridiculously-popular Mini and grabbed themselves a 105E instead.
Cheap to buy, even cheaper to buy bits for, and incredibly easy to work on, many were tuned to within an inch of their lives, lowered even further, and all with a bag of spanners, and a fair amount of finger-crossing. Of course, once the Escort came on the scene in the late ’60s, the Anglia slowly disappeared from view. But it never really went away, and partly thanks to nostalgia, partly due to re-recognising its potential, plus a few dedicated specialists and enthusiasts plugging away, the Anglebox has undergone a renaissance and interest has grown and grown. In fact, the phrase ‘you’ve never had it so good’ can be applied to the Anglia more than any other classic Ford right now. There are still plenty of projects for sale, plus a few excellent, dedicated specialists who are making it their mission to supply you with the right parts and advice.
The downside to all of this, of course, is that the cars aren’t as cheap as they used to be, but you can still pick up a solid base for far less than an Escort, and put together a sorted example that’ll have you laughing your socks off at the lights. Here’s how.
