Fear and loathing dogs sprawling De Paarl farm

DE PAArl Communal Property Association (CPA) is a farm out there. Not far from lichtenburg, not close to Mafikeng either, in the North West province. The farm is on the r503, a transition road between rural areas and small towns.

The land is a sprawling piece of geography accounting for 4582 hectares and large wedges of red soil with handsome yields – soya and sugar beans, sunflowers, nuts and maize and other commercial farming activities.

A real high-end estate, it forms part of the maize triangle – in the same agricultural network as Mpumalanga and Free State provinces. This piece of land is shared between 37 household beneficiaries, based on socialist economics. The beneficiaries get dividends at the end of farming season.
