When renovating to extend living spaces, it’s possible to extend out, build a second storey, or reconfigure what you already have without having to extend at all.

If you’re thinking of extending out, consider the slope of the site, access for construction, and the reduction in size of your outside living areas. Extending up will impact on your neighbours and there may be council restrictions on what you can and can’t do. You could also extend down to build a media room, a home gym or a wine cellar.
