UNDER REVIEW MASSEY FERGUSON 1250
Engine
The Perkins A6.354.4 engine was a newly developed unit at the time of launch of the MF 1250 and contained a number of advances over the A6.354 engine as fitted to the MF 1200. The most significant change was a new engine block, which omitted the pressed steel tappet cover plates that had featured on earlier engines. The cylinder head was also redesigned and featured machined valve ports to improve gas flow.
The changes permitted greater power output, torque and fuel efficiency while reducing overall noise for the six-cylinder unit. The engine features a 98.4mm (3.875in) bore and 127mm (5in) stroke making a swept volume of 5798cc (354 in3) as per the original A6.354 unit, which had been conceived nearly 20 years earlier. The A6.354.4 engine develops 82.5kW (112hp) at 2500rpm with maximum torque of 370Nm (270 lbf/ft) generated at a lowly 1100rpm.
