My last report was on our Honda CRX, the 2020 prize giveaway car which is now parked up awaiting its turn in the sun when car events hopefully get going again in 2021.

What I didn’t expect was to be writing about another Honda in the staff classics section and I expected even less for my wife to be the one responsible. But it was she one autumn morning who encouraged me to sell the Alfa Spider I’d owned for 23 years, making the point by brandishing an iPhone search for Honda S2000s. I’ve always wanted one since first reading the press pack back in 1999 and encouragement of that kind can only ever be taken as a green light, so the decision was made even before breakfast was over.
