A long way to go
On his longevity and reaching the milestone of 20 years
Obviously it’s a wonderful feeling and a great blessing. I consider myself very lucky to have stayed in the game so long as there were many great players who haven’t been able to achieve the same thing. I can’t take credit for it, I must thank my God for keeping me and giving me great health. I’ve been blessed with a strong heart and I do a lot of work outside the pitch; I like going to the gym a lot and I think that’s kept me injury free for a long time. The introduction of ice baths has also been a huge benefit. I would encourage any youngster … I know they are not nice to take and quite painful at times … but it’s good for the body. Even if you hate running, or things like that, you must remember it’s good for your body. Just like the ice baths! They keep you longer in the game. The only serious injury I had was when I snapped my quad, playing for Platinum Stars against Maritzburg. It was the only time I had to go for an operation.
