WHAT HAS THE IMPACT OF COVID-19 BEEN?
Revenues from rural tourism were expected to fall by £17.6bn in 2020 as a result of Covid-19 control measures – almost a third more than the estimated impact on tourism of Foot and Mouth Disease in 2001. VisitBritain forecast a 49% decline in domestic tourism spending last year, equalling a £44.9bn loss to the economy (and this was before the November restrictions).
