Lewis Hamilton’s season started with controversy as he was given a three-place grid penalty for not slowing up in qualifying when team-mate Valtteri Bottas slipped off the track. Running second in the race, the Brit was then pinged for contact with Red Bull’s Alex Albon after a late-race safety car period. Bottas won while Hamilton was slapped with a five-second penalty, dropping him to fourth behind Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) and Briton Lando Norris (McLaren).
