EVERYONE NEEDS A PICKUP AT CHRISTMAS – AND BEYOND…

The prerequisite for Motorsport News’s Christmas track test is to find something unique, special and a little bit wacky, and the car I’m about to climb aboard, parked at the end of a gravel track on a cold late-November morning in Yorkshire, has all of those attributes in spades.

Even today, when top-flight rallying is home to the fastest cars of all time, the Group B era is arguably the most revered of all time in the discipline. Mention Group B to someone with even a smattering of motorsport knowledge and you could bet your house on the fact an image would come to their mind of an evocative Audi quattro, Ford RS200, Peugeot 205 T16, Lancia Delta S4 or MG Metro 6R4.
