Electronic Diagnostics PEUGEOT 208 1.2 PETROL

One of the ‘new breed’ of Peugeots, the 208 ‘Supermini’ has become a family favourite for many. Kim Henson and Edward Haggar explore the diagnostic intricacies of a three-cylinder petrol-powered example.

Launched at the Geneva Motor Show in 2012, the freshly-styled 208 replaced the outgoing 207, and was said to be lighter, more spacious and more fuel-efficient than its predecessor, and with lower exhaust emission levels.

A variety of petrol and diesel engines was offered, and for this feature we are looking at a three-cylinder 1.2-litre 208, dating from October 2012, bearing engine code HMZ – also used in a variety of other PSA Group Peugeot and Сitroёn vehicles.

Advantages claimed by the PSA Group for their three-cylinder engines, compared with four-cylinder units, include lighter weight, increased fuel efficiency and better emissions performance – plus lower levels of friction within the motor.
