Bargain banger

I’ve bought another car - a cheap banger for which I paid the current online scrap value plus £30 for a two-thirds tankful of diesel. As those of you who were around when, prior to Martyn, I occupied the CM Editor’s seat may recall, I rather like having an old banger or two around the place, and will often buy one if I can find some kind of justification.

You see, I get almost as much pleasure out of buying something like this for next to nothing as most people do from owning the very latest thing. Bangers are brilliant; you don’t need to worry about the odd bump or scrape, you can use them as you like, and whereas with a conventional car, non-essential extras that don’t work are annoying, with a banger you expect much
