DESPITE THE LONGER days and warmer weather that summer brings, controlling parasites in a horse is a year-round requirement and, whatever the season, you can’t forget your horse’s worming regime. While the incidences of parasite-related disease in the UK is low compared to poorer overseas countries, when these diseases do occur the effects can be devastating — redworm can cause potentially fatal colon damage, for example; tapeworms can lead to colics that require surgery; and high infestations of roundworm can result in a variety of issues, from weight loss to neurological disease.
