As I pushed our baby into the world, I was thrilled the birth was the natural one I’d wanted.
‘It’s a boy,’ the midwife smiled.
It was wonderful news.
What was not wonderful was the open lesion I spotted immediately at the base of our baby’s spine.
Protruding out of it was a little sack of fluid and his tiny spinal cord.
‘What’s wrong?’ I gasped.
