ubbed The Night We Come Home, this Halloween show allows the Manchester death metallers to ham up the theatricality. Shots of abandoned alleys outside the secret location build the atmosphere, and as the band take to a torchlit stage and launch into epic you can sense the heat and smells in the deserted venue. While everything from decade-old bludgeoner to the seismic groove of are covered, newer tracks and unsurprisingly steal the show, with Lyn Jeffs’ wall of percussion forcing its way to the front. Vocalist Jason Evans revels in his role as the demonic master of ceremonies, encouraging viewers to circlepit around their living rooms and coffee tables during , while dressed in tattered robes and makeup not unlike Behemoth’s Nergal. However, he really takes a page out of the Pole’s book after a podium is brought out for a venomous diatribe ahead of , during which Jason merrily rips apart a Bible. Though it’s been done before it makes for a shocking, notable talking point on a triumphant homecoming.
