SALVAGE HUNTERS

MOST OF MY FAVOURITE rods are secondhand, some bought cheap, some swapped and one rescued from a skip. Their conditions range from flawless to something the cat dragged in, yet they all do an excellent job and what’s far more important to me they are lovely to use.

Some hold personal memories of big fish hooked and exotic beaches visited, but most are just tools. They probably wouldn’t make £100 between them but to me one or two are beyond price.

The big split in the secondhand rod market is between collectible and practical, with a few rods bridging that divide by being both desirable to own yet great to fish with.
