There are broadly three main problems affecting input markets across the African continent, and these are farm subsidies that crowd-out private sector investment; lack of strong regulatory frameworks, which allows for the proliferation of counterfeit and poor-quality seed and fertilisers; and a lack of capacity of agencies to facilitate efficient and timely delivery of low-cost inputs to farmers.
